They exited into what looked like the fancy lobby of a bank without windows. A grey marble floor, white pillars, and various potted plants were set up throughout the large square room and stood directly opposite a set of double doors. Behind them was the mirror theyâd just exited, the length and width of two Guardian-size doorways. It was the biggest free-standing mirror sheâd ever seen.
âWow,â Gia mumbled when the rippling surface settled and reflected the two of them in their matching robes. She had to look away at how good they looked together, like a two-piece puzzle.
âItâs to easily transport large items home. Furniture, for example.â
âDoes it matter if you donât have a big one like that at home? Or would you get stuck if you tried to squeeze through too much?â
Luna smiled. âImagine this room as being the inside of a bottle. It squeezes you like a sponge through a bottle neck that is the mirror portal and pops you out safely on the other side with everything you entered with intact. The only consideration you would need to worry about, would be having enough space for your cargo on the other side.â
Gia hummed in understanding and followed her to where the sun shone through the stained glass in the wooden double doors. Luna held one open for her and she stepped through, mechanically descending the steps while gawking at her surroundings and halted on a paved sidewalk.
Erdiko was not a village but a bustling city.
Gia wasnât sure what sheâd expected, but the engraved sign on the small building theyâd exited read Erdiko Village and she had to accept that it was simply a name and not a designation.
The street was lined with storefronts that had neat signage on their front windows, product displays behind them, and buildings made of stone, some towering at least forty stories high. For all the colour in Ederraâs plant life, the architecture was all sleek greys or dark browns, framed by silver or gold. Simple yet elegant. The roads were lined with prettily patterned paving stones, the surfaces as flat and smooth as the walls of the buildings.
Bicycles, motorcycles, and carsâor maybe she should call them automobilesâpassed them by. The city was glamourized in an Art Deco design reminiscent of 1920âs France, yet somehow modernised, as everything looked shiny and brand new, made with the most lavish materials.
âWhat do you use for fuel?â Gia asked, having noticed how soft the vehicle engines were as they drove past.
âEnchantments,â Luna proudly answered, lips curled in a smile, patiently waiting for Gia to finish taking in everything.
The people gave them a wide berth, but it was obviously out of respect rather than fear. The sidewalk was full of pedestrians glancing in their direction and then promptly away again. Most were dressed in tunics, wraparound dresses, cotton-like suits, shirts and jackets made for comfort and luxury. Everyone seemed wealthy and healthy.
Across the busy street, on the front steps of the tailorâs shop, a small green goblin child wearing an orange sundress unabashedly stared at them.
